Our Hearts are Breaking

By Chuck Robison

On May 4, 1970 we were forced to confront the reality that our government was willing to shoot student-protestors as they challenged the Viet Nam War. On that day, at Kent State in Ohio, the war came into our living rooms.

We are at a similar place today. Only this is much more complex, dangerous and negative. I am not a fortune teller, but I am a qualified Futurist and I am able to connect the dots about what is happening to America right now and under our noses. This change in America is not going to end well.

Our so-called Christian Nation has now been taken over by people who are comfortable relating to each other in hatred. Today’s vocal Christians are comfortable spewing their hatred all over the landscape. And they do this while proclaiming that Trump, our most un-Christ-like President, is ordained by God to lead this process. These Christians are certain that God is an English-speaking White Anglo and that God, through Trump, wants anyone not white and not English-speaking to go back to where they came from.

Where did all of this begin? We are still too blind and too forgetful to see that. In 1956 I was 14 years old and remember laughing at this dumb statement from the fat Communist leader Khrushchev: “We will take America without firing a shot. We do not have to invade the U.S. We will destroy you from within….”

Today, our leadership…. all of it…. demonstrates a blindness to the fact that America has been overtaken by our enemies. And like the Trojan Horse delivered inside the gates of the fortress at Troy, our enemy, Russia, has installed a puppet to lead us to ruin. And all we, like sheep, have gone astray.

Perhaps you felt it when you woke up in 2016 to the news that Trump had won. Surely you have felt it since. Little by little, Executive Order by Executive Order, our country is being taken apart and we have forgotten the promises we accepted that justified Trump’s election. We have even forgotten his assurances that Mexico would pay for his wall.

The religious leaders of our day, unlike those of the past, now praise Trump for every hateful and destructive statement he makes, ignore every immoral and un-Christ-like thing he does and revel in the greasy stench of the political power they have groveled themselves into.

Perhaps you have felt this more strongly as time has moved on. Here we have America, land of the free and home of the brave, justifying paying $750 a day to private prison companies who cannot find it in their budgets to provide toothpaste to children who they separated from their parents.

What we have here is the experience of a National Nervous Breakdown. There is not a drug or a plan to make us feel better. Our hearts are breaking and deep down we know we are experiencing what other empires have gone through when the decline set in. There is not one iota of evidence, in all of history, to suggest that any empire has been able to right itself once in decline.

God may intervene and help us, but for that to happen, we must cut the cord to all the evil now consuming us. That means you and me being willing to pray our way into a better future and being willing to stand up for what we know is right, right now.

Victor Shamas, PhD Explores the Creative Process

Victor was in Austin to address the Austin IONS community.  When we heard he was coming, we wanted to share his brilliance and enthusiasm for life with you.

You will not be disappointed.

Victor’s latest book, Deep  Creativity, reveals, the findings of Victor Shamas’ 30-year exploration of the creative process. Rather than observing creativity in others, he delved into the experience directly in order to uncover hidden truths and break free of common misconceptions. Deep Creativity turns fundamental assumptions about creativity on their head while offering fresh perspectives on the scientific method, fractals, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, plate tectonics, mind and consciousness, hero myths, the life cycle, sleep and dreams, mothers’ intuition, the nature of wisdom, peak experiences, and even the Gospels. Written from a research psychologist’s perspective, Deep Creativity portrays the creative experience as a bold adventure filled with passion, turmoil, inspiration, sacrifice, sheer joy, self-transcendence, and unconditional love.

What is Consciousness?

We started our company, What If It Really Works?, in 2003 on the NPR station, KOTO, in Telluride, Colorado. Our focus was and still is interviewing experts about New Science, New Spirituality and Consciousness Studies.  At that time there was seldom mention of Consciousness anywhere.

So we sought out people who could discuss this seemingly obscure subject.  One of our first interviewees was Captain Edgar Mitchell, Commander of the Apollo 14 Mission in 1972.  On the return portion of that mission, Mitchell had a profound experience of Consciousness as he was surprisingly connected to everything around him, including Earth from a distance of 225,000 miles away.

This experience was so powerful that he resigned his commission in the Navy and committed his life to finding out what it was. He founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences and discovered Consciousness was a hidden secret.

Physicist Dr. Claude Swanson wrote in 2010:“A century ago Neils Bohr proposed that, in Quantum Physics, human Consciousness has the power to disturb experiments.  Just a peek causes something called “quantum wave function collapse”, which means you just destroyed those nice wave patterns your particles were in. So, Consciousness is really powerful. Once you have looked, the particle behaves differently. Despite this enormously important role Consciousness plays, physicists have avoided studying it ever since.”

Well, that was the last century.  Now all of that is changing.  In the 1950’s, the renowned theologian, Paul Tillich described God as “The Ground of All Being”.

That brought God up close and personal.  God no longer lived in the sky somewhere.  He became the basis, the essence of everything.  God became the ground on which and within which all of our lives and all of our world is lived.  God is our ultimate concern.

Today advanced thinkers refer to Consciousness as the Soul of the Universe.  It is found everywhere, on all levels of reality, and has the power to show us the connection we have to beings on the other side of the universe, and to the smallest energies in all material, as yet undiscovered.

Consciousness is also the heart of understanding Quantum anything.  And you are going to hear more and more about this for the rest of your life.  This is at the core of the evolutionary leap our species is taking right now.  The purpose of evolution happening now is to create the new human, which is the target set by God to be the highest expression of God revealing Himself in the Universe.

This new species of human will likely be known as Homo Luminous, or Man of Light.  Light will be recognized as the universal conveyor of information and power. Jesus gave us a hint of all of this when he claimed himself to be The Light of the World.

So here, in two sentences, is a concise definition of Consciousness written in 1935 by one of our great Quantum Scientists.

“The total number of minds in the universe is One. In fact, consciousness is a singularity phasing within all beings.”  Erwin Schrodinger, PhD.

I hope you will take the time to think about this definition.  It is filled with secret information that will change our world.

In the olden days, say 50 years ago, it was common for people to critique Christians as being hypocrites. The Dictionary defines hypocrisy as: The pretending of having virtues, principals, or beliefs that one does not in fact have.

Back in those days’ preachers used to quote Jesus and what he said to describe Christians who puffed themselves up to impress others.

For example, in Matthew 23 Jesus says: 27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

Powerful words! Thankfully, in The Brave New Christianity of the 21st Century, we no longer hold anyone to such strict adherence to these old scriptural references. We have finally outgrown hypocrisy!

As a young seminarian and then a young preacher, I was always conscious of avoiding words and actions in clear conflict with what I professed to believe. Most of the time I was successful, but I was hard on myself and others of my group when I failed.

Many modern Christian leaders are now quick to find simple answers that prove that lying, adultery, theft and other seemingly common sins are of no consequence when they are used to further the higher purpose of creating a Christian Government.

Many of today’s modern Christian leaders are solidly sure that what used to matter no longer counts. Jerry Falwell, Jr. has celebrated Trump as a “dream president” and Franklin Graham said “God’s hand intervened” to elect him.

At the 2018 National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., several speakers said no President in American history has done as much as this one to promote “religious freedom.”

And why would people who claim to stand for family values so uncritically fiercely support a thrice-married man who, according to Ronan Farrow’s reporting for the New Yorker, set up complex legal arrangements to cover up multiple affairs throughout his current marriage?

Well, that seems to be a good question.

And the answer from megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, who declared that Trump is “on the right side of God” and that “evangelicals know they are not compromising their beliefs in order to support this great president.” is a dramatic statement of how the church is no longer willing to recognize its own hypocrisy.

They must be right. This is a new day, a new Century and a new set of values that are making America Great Again. These old ways of understanding the Bible are finally passé and we live in a newly liberated Christian environment!
They are a strangely welcome relief for those of us who still catch ourselves being hypocritical on matters of morality and following Jesus’ words.

But I cannot stop wondering what happened to those old-fashioned Christian values. George Washington could not tell a lie. Thomas Jefferson insisted on the separation of church and state. And it was that old soldier, General Dwight D. Eisenhower who, as President in 1959, warned us about the spiritual damage to our country that would result if we followed the wrong forces at work in our society
