Opinion: The Sheep Look Up / 2014-03-05

The Sheep Look Up is a science fiction novel by British author John Brunner published in 1972.  Reading it in 1975 seared my memory with the awful thought that this same story could happen here.  The plot is centered on the rise of a corporation-sponsored government, pollution in big cities has reached extreme levels and most (if not all) people’s health has been affected in some way.

By the end of the book, rioting and civil unrest sweep the United States, due to a combination of poor health, poor sanitation, lack of food, lack of services, ineffectiveness of services (medical, policing), disillusionment with government/companies, oppressive government, high incidence of birth defects (pollution-induced), and other factors; all services (military, government, private, infrastructure) break down.

 The people cause this destruction by acting like sheep, going along with the crowd and not paying attention to what is happening right before their eyes, until it is too late for positive action.

Something like this is happening in America now.  We have begun to think of ourselves as well informed by the 24 hour news cycle, yet we  know nothing other than what the various propaganda machines tell us.  And they are telling us two huge lies.

The first lie is that there is no global warming and people who contest that are using that as an excuse to make money.  Remember the Inconvenient Truth of Al Gore?  Fox News convinced a lot of people that the global warming issue was just Gore’s way to make money.

For some reason at least 55% of the American population does not accept what is clearly obvious.  From bee colony collapse to radiation from Japan lapping at the West Coast beaches to dramatic shifts in weather patterns and the melting of the polar ice caps, we are confronted with all the evidence needed to prove there is a problem, or problems. Yet we are not willing to solve or even look at this evidence.  Not surprisingly, 97% of the world’s climate scientists have closed the debate and accepted the fact that we are polluting and heating up our world.

The second lie is also a product of the anti-intellectualism of the American character.  Right now more than 46% of our population claims not to believe in evolution.  They consider themselves supported by God in their beliefs.  Yet by denying evolution and insisting it be stomped out, they are closing the door on the real solution that could take us through this global crisis.

God built us to evolve.  It makes no difference where we came from; the issue is where are we going.  There is a target for evolution’s process.  We are meant to become much, much more in the future than we are today as individuals and as a species.

Denying evolution’s process and target is a way to block our progress and insure our demise.

Nevertheless, the people telling us these two lies are using them to control us and to make money.

But there is change ahead.  As one era ends it must necessarily share the stage of time with the beginning of a new era.  We see the truth of our situation being revealed daily….from the NSA files to the GMO foods poisoning our bodies. It is the end of the world as we know it.  The New Era, now being born, will arrive bringing with it the new man, Homo Luminous, the man of light.

Daily we are given the opportunity to find new solutions and paths.  But too many seem more empowered by defending the lies we have accepted for so long.

If knowing the truth is the gatekeeper to living in freedom, then it is mandatory that we be willing to tell the truth to each other and ourselves.  And the truth is this:  we have reached the end of an era, and if we want to enter the new era, we must take responsibility for the unfinished business of the past and prepare ourselves and our planet for a totally new understanding of why we are here.

As we do that, we will demonstrate to our brothers and sisters that in bringing light to all the dark caves of consciousness we have been living in, we are creating a new world for evolution’s next step, Homo Luminous.

Of course, I could be wrong.

The Empire Strikes….

We normally pledge allegiance to a flag representing a republic which functions as a democracy in a free society! Most of us have been doing that since the first grade. It is so wonderful that we keep doing it at every opportunity! However, the republic to which we pledge allegiance no longer exists.

We now live our lives at the center of history’s largest, most powerful, highest tech, most armed and most dangerous empire. The 21st Century American Empire is run by an oligarchy of global corporations acting, now, as legal individuals, almost tax-free, seeking all the money possible for the “investors” and riding roughshod over 90% of the world.

The American Empire’s leadership has turned what we call the United States Government into The Empire’s Middle Management Team, which now takes its orders directly from the corporate Oligarchs. The American Empire backs up its demands on the world through the world’s largest and most lethal armed force, which today is conducting both open and secret wars in 134 of the world’s 187 countries.

The American Empire has developed a Global Total Information Awareness System and the American Empire can now keep track of at least 90% of the world’s citizens. Soon, new babies will be implanted with computer chips to monitor their entire lives. This is already happening in France. All in the name of security!

In the mean time, you and I are trying to live honorable and satisfying lives, while being informed by the Empire’s propaganda machine, which includes mindless entertainment, the educational systems, mass media, electronic churches, and celebrity spokespersons for how The American Empire expects us to live, dress, eat and behave.

It appears no one here in America or anywhere else in the world will ever prevail against this force. You and I and about six billion other people are the slave work force of this empire, whether we see it or not. No wonder we are so depressed. We used to be the people who worked together to solve problems. Now we cannot even see the damage being done to each other, when the Oligarchs pay the people who deliver our cheap, unhealthy, unnatural, fast chemical food, poverty wages that are then supplemented by Government assistance which is a $280 billion tax break to the corporations thus saving them more money for which they do not have to pay taxes.

But, history tells us that all empires fail and disappear. Like a crumbling skyscraper falling in upon itself when detonated by numerous explosives, empires collapse when corruption explodes in strategic places. The result is the same if the corruptors are individuals or whole societies.

The corruption, now racing at electronic speeds around the world, is caused by our losing sight of the fact that human brain is still in the process of evolution towards a more perfect state in which a still-superior pattern of consciousness is possible. A natural, frugal, healthy life, content only with the basic needs of the body and the mind, free of ego, immoderate ambition, lust and greed for wealth—more ready to serve than to rule, altruistic and compassionate—is the only life aligned with the principles of evolution.

What this means is that as we wake up and realize we are living in a decaying empire, our best and only hope is to stop playing the game. To do this, we need to go back to life’s basics. Simplicity in all things, compassion for the life situations of our neighbors, and a focus on those things that will actually improve the lives of all is the surest way to change the sad course of history in which we find ourselves.

Once upon a time, a small group of young idealists took a successful first step toward ending an unjust war by burning their draft cards. That bonfire of enslavement to the war machine is still smoldering in all of our hearts. It’s time to risk it all and burn the cards that now track and enslave us.

Consider this: if we burned all of our credit cards and decided to live off the credit grid, we would begin a profound global change as powerful as the corruption that now identifies The Evil Empire that has become the 21st century.

Notes From the Masters Class, January 01,2014

I’m Chuck Robison.  Today is January 1, 2014 and this is Notes From The Masters class.

One of the things that Karen I have discovered over the last 11 years of doing the business What If It Really Works? is, we have interviewed all sorts of people.  We’ve interviewed scientists and consciousness leaders and artists and spiritual leaders and along the way we’ve tried to ask each one of them a question, sometimes toward the end of the interview, and the question is:  If you could tell our viewer or listener one thing that would improve their spiritual experience, right now, what would that be?

The remarkable thing is that, with one notable exception, every person we have interviewed has said essentially the same thing as an answer to that question which is: “Gratitude is the place to begin.”  Think about that for a second and it makes perfectly good sense.  But you would think that over 11 years and all these people someone would’ve said something different than that.   What they’re saying to us is what we’re interpreting is that without a sense of gratitude and without the effort of expressing that gratitude, you’re kinda stuck.

So beginning of course with Thanksgiving, we’ve gone through a period of Thanksgiving or giving gratitude and are accepting our blessings and now we’re going through when we think about Christmas and New Year’s and all the time I think most of us when we think about gratitude we think about let’s be grateful for all the things we have received.

When you make your goals or your intentions or your dreams or desires or whatever it is you want to call what you’re doing as you anticipate this coming year, what you’re really doing is you’re putting your thoughts and your dreams out into the quantum field and the quantum field will receive that, and, just like the subconscious, it only answers “yes”.  When you say to the subconscious anything it says “yes”.  That’s why we have to be very careful of our words.

It’s also true that we have to be very careful about what we dream about or ask for, because you might just get.  In the quantum field there are all sorts of possibilities.  They are endless, but somewhere when you point your intentions or your goals or your dreams or wishes out there, something is going to come to it and something will be on its way back to you because that’s how the Universe seems to work.

So by thinking our I’m getting a blessing giving our gratitude of thanking all the spiritual forces of the Universe for meeting these needs and dreams and desires before they appear, what you’re really telling your subconscious and your quantum field is:  “I know this is coming to me and I am grateful.”  By pushing that button, gratitude, you accelerate the process of whatever you’re dreaming about wishing for or expecting coming to you.

I hope that doesn’t sound mechanical I don’t mean it as mechanical and we cannot always tell exactly how our dreams or prayers or wishes are going to be answered.

If you look back on your life, the answers that you have gotten so far, and this is what I see in my life, is that our needs are met.  The dream, of course, is that you can wish for Mercedes-Benz and you get it.

That’s not how it works.  How it works is, when you say, “I’m grateful that the correct transportation, the best transportation for me and all other people is coming to me now.”  By expressing gratitude you set up for the universe to understand and for your subconscious to understand:  “I believe, I trust, I know it’s going to happen.  So I’d Like for you to think about this this week.  Maybe you haven’t thought about paying your gratitude forward, but it does make a dynamic difference in what happens and the least that will happen is you will help convince yourself that what you need is on its way to you right on time.  If you doubt that, look back on your life and ask yourself: “Did anything arrive too early or too late or did the right thing occur regardless of whatever kind of interference I put into the process?”

Creating a New American Revolution

Our current government was visualized and finalized in the years between 1775 and 1787. Twelve years that changed the world. The tenants of the Declaration of Independence still hold profound truth and the Constitution and Bill of Rights are of the highest order of efforts, thus far, to govern fairly.

But that was then. Today, in our failed search for security, we have chosen to sacrifice the rights those documents guaranteed. America since 2001 has allowed the complete domination of Casino Capitalism to conduct an unreasonable search and seizure of the American Dream. (Surely, you do not think the corporations are going to protect us from the NSA.) We now have a government just as unrepresentative as the British Government, which we rebelled against 238 years ago. Today people who we elect as our representatives go to their government offices, not to represent us, but to get rich by doing the bidding of corporate and foreign lobbyist’s that represent ‘the house’ at this Casino. And the house always wins….just like in real life.

It is not in The American Character, as De Tocqueville showed us, to put up with an unjust situation very much longer. We are playing possum just long enough to get all the evidence necessary to make a major change. The Biologists call this instant evolution, or punctuated equilibrium. An organism or a society sends out scouts to its’ perimeters and asks them to report back about what is on the other side of the border, and then the organism’s CPU (Central Processing Unit) computes what changes it will need to make in order to survive what lies ahead. And when it finally acts, it happens seemingly instantly, and effectively, usually to the surprise of everyone.

What lies ahead for us is very different than the inequality created by today’s Casino Capitalism Government, and this new future is now only faintly visible. But we are the CPU of our society and we will be the ones to declare a new independence from the unrepresentative and corrupt government currently ruling our national experience.

Make no mistake. We will not overthrow the current government, we will not engage in a military solution and we will not do battle with the very people who today think they have all the power. That’s the Old Paradigm way of solving problems. Using the New Paradigm, we will create and establish a new form of government so far superior to Casino Capitalism, that people will rush to it and ignore, and thus dis-empower, that 1% of the population who like to think they are calling all the shots. King George thought the same way.  So did the US Government when they decided to attack Syria.

Although it is too early to describe exactly how our new government will look and act, we can safely predict it will have to include a basic lesson from biology. Each of us humans has a body containing more than 50 Trillion cells. In a healthy body, each of those cells has a specific function or job, each is provided adequate housing, complete food and the security of knowing it is focused on the highest good for the life of the whole body. No one cell or group of cells controls our body, and none are allowed to hoard undue riches in the system. And when the body of each of us produces a “profit” it is shared by the whole system. Good health does not belong to a heart or a brain or a kidney, but to the whole body.

Today, there are almost 8 Billion cells in the body of Humankind. The inequality between groups of people all over the world is breathtakingly painful. In addition to the wrenching adjustments we must make immediately to cope with Global Climate Change, the results of this Casino-induced inequality will affect the whole of Humankind. (And by the way, The Casino has dropped more than $8 billion into secret funds to convince you there is no climate problem.) From poor people in Third World countries scouring dumps to salvage minerals and chemicals in discarded computers at the price of ingesting almost certain deadly carcinogens, to ignorant “jumpers” being used by private corporations to “jump” into atomic reactors in an attempt to stop further release of radiation (as in Tokyo Electric Power Company), to fully marginalized American citizens facing a cut-off of food stamps and unemployment support as a result of our leaders worshiping Ayn Rand’s selfish and flawed thinking, we are facing a global crisis that has all the power needed to result in a global disaster that will end up with global de-evolution.

So our new surprise government will have to account for the safety, health and usefulness of all citizens and in equal measure. Just saying that one sentence feels revolutionary and also as old as the Declaration of Independence itself.

Once you and I commit to creating a new government of inter-dependence and equality, like the Puritans themselves, we will cast off from the dark land of Casino Capitalism and will set sail into the New World, destined to become, again, the beacon of light for all 8 Billion cells in the body of humankind.

The New American Revolution is now at hand.

Presents and Gifts Galore

You probably did what I did when I was a kid. I was very clear about the presents I wanted. In 1951 I wanted a Lionel Train set. In 1953 I wanted an English Bicycle. By the time 1965 rolled around, all I wanted was to travel to Alabama to be with a girl. By 1972 all I wanted was to have my son born healthy and soon. That present arrived a month and two days later. That was the end of my making Christmas Lists and I began being more concerned about what gifts I wanted to give people I loved. And the cycle was repeated as my son grew up.

A Present is what the name means: someone presents you with something they know you want. And it is still fun to get something I really want as a present from someone I love, and it is always special to give someone exactly what they have been wanting.

And here we are in 2013, hearing Sarah Palin talking about how the commercialization of Christmas adds to the fun and excitement! What? She actually said that in an interview about her new Christmas book. Now that’s a change. You probably thought as a Pastor, I am almost required to be against the commercialization of Christmas. Actually, I am, but I marvel that we are getting to the core of our situation.

When we were just citizens and church members Christmas was sweeter and simpler. But now that we have become primarily consumers with the responsibility to spend it all, it just makes sense to finally celebrate the full bore of commercializing Christmas.

Good for Sarah! Finally, she said something that makes sense. We have a responsibility to be out early on Black Friday, shop at home on Cyber Monday, and again on Green Monday……and then we can get ready for the January sales soon to be followed by new clothes for Easter and blah, blah, blah. The truth all of this reveals is that the War on Christmas is between big companies that are trying to get our complete attention to buy the next big thing.

So the other side of Christmas is this: Gifts are very different from Presents. A Gift is something someone gives you from their heart. It can be anything. Remember the last time a little six year old child gave you a piece of art created just for you, and how happy that child was when you accepted it. You didn’t need it, you didn’t know you wanted it, but the love it brought you resulted in your keeping that child’s art long after the child became an adult.

So here’s the deal……….Go with Sarah and all the joy of Christmas that being a top tier consumer will bring you with the Presents you present to those who know what they want.

But God never gives Presents. God gives Gifts from the heart…..his heart to our hearts. That, Virginia, is why God gave us the Gift of a little child. During this consumer season, if you pay attention, that tiny child will speak to you in his still small voice and your heart will open and you will give away as much love as you have received from the Gift God gave us so long ago.

Notes From the Masters Class 12/3/2013

Hi, this is Chuck Robison and this is the show, Notes From the Masters Class and today is Tuesday, December 3, 2013. And if you’re anything like I am, you’re going through days right now when you look at out on the world and say “Boy, this is mess that we’re in” and then there are days when you look at the world and say “wait, a minute this is pretty good this is a real possibility, there is reason for hope”.

Now when you’re looking at the things that create despair, there are plenty of them. All you have to do is go as far as genetically modified organisms, which apparently are the seeds that are producing almost all the grains and a lot of other things that we are using. If you’ve ever asked does evolution exist, think about this: in my lifetime, which is a little over 70 years, we have put in at least 500 new chemicals into the environment every year since 1960. And these new chemicals are put in the environment and nobody knows how they are going to affect us, but somehow or another, so far, we had been able to evolve or adapt, adopt or become capable of living in an environment that is polluted by things that we don’t know what it is doing to us, but we are still surviving.

And if you think about the other things that are causing us despair all of us know that it seems like the top corporations and not just the quote, unquote American corporations, but the global corporations want to really run the show of governments and we’re seeing it right here in our own government. And we also see governments, especially our government, that does not seem to work so well. Imagine this is December 3rd and the United States Congress plans, in the next eight days that they’re going to be working, to pass three bills, all of which are massively unimportant.

What’s that about? Well, we don’t know what it’s about, but it begins to make you ask the question: Who exactly is in control here, who’s calling these shots? And from the appearance of just looking at things, nobody is controlling anything.

And because of that, we can have a little bit of hope, because nobody has shown at my door, and they probably haven’t shown up yours, and said, “Oh by the way, we’re in control now you’ll do what we tell you.” But that’s part of the despair because that could actually happen all over the world.

Now on the hope side of the scale, there’s one thing that’s really, really important and I’d like for you to consider that. You’ll remember that six weeks ago or so The President of the United States came on the television said, folks sorry to tell you this but we’re going to have to go to war in Syria because those people killed some kids in and we’ve got to deal with them. Now never mind the fact that there are and were a million child refugees who have left Syria and are living in the desert in tents and they can have hardly any water, there’s no sewage, there’s no electricity and there’s no education.

Here’s 1 million kids that need help, but we were planning on taking our resources and going in and killing some more people. Doesn’t make any sense, and it didn’t then. So, within 36 hours The President came back and says, Well, you know, I think I’m going to take this to the Congress a let them buy into it.

And then shortly after that, the Syrians said, wait a minute. We’ll give up our weapons of mass destruction and our chemical weapons, You guys can have it. And all of a sudden the reason for going to war was blown away. Now that didn’t happen by accident, and it wasn’t one or two people in Washington or Syria or Russia or any place else that made it happen. It was you and I, because without parades without protest without writing articles or anything else, we all just said to ourselves, “You know what? We don’t want that.” It’s like the 1960s when they said “Suppose they gave a war and nobody came.” Well, that happened to us and here’s why that happened.

You and I are connected to a larger consciousness system. You and I are connected to each other and all the other almost 8,000,000,000 people on this world. With de Chardin’s Nous Sphere, or the global mind, or call it whatever you want, but we are connected to each other through a global consciousness. And when we have experiences that remind us of that, and prove that to us, all of a sudden we get this little tiny glimpse, “Wow what if we have that kind of power?” What if we have the ability to change the world and world situations, just by thinking together and saying you know what, we’re not coming to your war. There’s a better way, we know there’s a better way and we’re not going to play.

And we did that, we really did that and it was a lot less difficult than stopping the Vietnam War, which also was a result of us connecting with our consciousness and saying, enough.

Now we have power beyond our wildest dreams and there are lots of people out there who would like for you to not know that. Who would like for you to forget that, who would like for you to think “Gee, that we better let them control things because we don’t know……” Nonsense.

We, every one of us, are in a position of incredible power. Our power is consciousness and our connection to each other. And if you will join me, because I work on this, if you join me in connecting with each other through this global brain, we will be able to drive things in a positive, helpful and healthy direction despite all the other forces arrayed against us who say, “It can’t be done.” It can be done! It is a spiritual experience. It is a God given power and you and I have it. And we have it when we know it, and we don’t know it, when we forget it, when were talked out of it, we don’t. We always have access to it but, if you don’t use it you lose it.

So I like for you to suggest that I’d like to suggest to you, give this some thought give this a chance, and look around and see how you are in communication with people all over the world and what we are doing. This is the age of the mind and the more we’re able to use it, the more power we are going to have. And so I thank you for being with me today. I look forward to doing this again soon and remember, all minds are joined. Thanks.

Opinion: Critical Thinking

It’s time to stop hitting the snooze button and WAKE UP. The “owners” of our country are hell bent on destroying the whole American Dream so they can get all the money. Nothing new about that. What’s new is this conflict has now become totally absurd.

Texas Republicans included in their 2012 Platform this bright idea:

“Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.” (Valarie Strauss, Washington Post, 7-9-12)

Now why would any leadership organization oppose skills for thinking critically?

“A McDonald’s employee called the company’s McResource help line to ask what she could do to afford her heating bill, and the operator told her to use public assistance.
The recorded call was released just a week after a major report found that more than half of fast food workers rely on public assistance programs, costing taxpayers some $7 billion per year.” (UPI, 10-25-13)

And you were told we want to get people off of welfare and into good jobs.

“Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest private sector employer, is also the biggest consumer of taxpayer supported aid. According to Florida Congressman Alan Grayson, in many states, Wal-Mart employees are the largest group of Medicaid recipients. They are also the single biggest group of food stamp recipients.” (Barry Ritholtz Nov 13, 2013 Bloomberg)

And you wondered why Wal-Mart Employees were creating their own Thanksgiving food bank for fellow employees who could not afford to feed their families…..after all, they had “good jobs” with one of the biggest employers in the country. The family owners of Wal-Mart are worth more than 120 Billion Dollars and they oppose the establishment of a fair minimum wage. And currently Wal-Mart ads feature what a great place it is for a career.

It sounds like the next stop will be the government being forced to re-create 18th century workhouses where poor people were imprisoned for their poverty and forced to do menial labor.

The reality is, we have been trained to believe that food stamp recipients are welfare cheats who are too lazy to work. Given the facts, this is proof that we need to teach critical thinking from kindergarten on up.

Critical Thinking, should we ever teach it, would begin with moral precepts and community responsibility. When did we start to believe that Ayn Rand defined the soul of America? Rand’s Atlas Shrugged has been ranked as second only to the Bible as one of the most influential books in the lives of modern readers, and more than 30 million copies of her books have been sold. Her version of Individualism and The American Dream portrays a few strong characters whose drive and ambition gains the world for them at the price of the many.

There is nothing moral about this view of our purpose here. It is simply selfishness gone wild. As Americans we tell the world this is a free and supportive country, while at the same time we glorify pure self-interest, forgetting, among many others, President Teddy Roosevelt’s admonition that “This country will not be a permanently good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a reasonably good place for all of us to live in.”

The truth is, unless we become critical thinkers in the public discourse, we will see our country pass over the tipping point of no return to common decency and compassionate care for each other. And never doubt that Karma affects countries as it does individuals.

The Bible asks the question: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” And the Real Answer is, “No, we are our brothers’ brothers.” And it is time to wake up and have a family reunion.

Opinion: What Is Needed Now?

Beginning in 1981, Dr. Don Edward Beck, pioneering user of Spiral Dynamics, which was developed by Dr. Claire Graves, applied this Values Integration Science in his personal work with Nelson Mandela to create the future South Africa.

Recently, Beck was at a conference where many of the attendees were making short presentations about their programs or products that were geared to improving our lives. One presenter made an impassioned plea for people to adopt his ideas presented in book and video form. At the end of that presentation, Don got up and said to the speaker, “If I gave you a check for $120 million dollars to support any one of the programs presented here today, what project would you give the money to?”

Don had just given a specific application from Spiral Dynamics.  The presenter was stumped.  He couldn’t even figure out what the question meant. Finally Don said to him “The reason you’re having a problem is you’re not asking the right questions. The right question is: “What is needed now?  Not, Who wants to buy my product or my book or my thought? Not, Whose idea is the best idea? The real issue is: What do we need now?”  This question is valid in almost any situation. It gets rid of a lot of the foolishness that occupies our time.  Let’s look at what would happen if we asked that question more frequently.

In the political world, we have seen, just this past week, there is a continuing battle over things that really don’t matter to the average citizen. You may have noticed in the last several weeks that the media have now divided the Republican Party into two groups. The first group is obviously the Tea Party and the second group is The Business Party. They go back and forth with each other trying to beat each other up, or beat each other down, or make some kind of a difference.  But you never hear them ask “What do we need now?”, nor do you hear the Democrats ask the same question.

What would happen if all three parties and the Congress and the President just up and said, “What do we need right now? What’s the best path to take, what’s the most important action we can take, what is needed now?”

What we need right now is for somebody to confront the fact that this economy has been going downward for the past 30 years. What was supposed to be a trickle-down process from the rich to the poor has, in fact, become exactly that! The wealthy are allowing only a trickle of their treasure to go to the middle class or the lower class or anybody else. And all of a sudden we have a country with one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. Our schools no longer rank anywhere near the top 25 in the world. We have the largest percentage of citizens in prison, the most mass murders of any country in the world, a staggering percentage of people living below the poverty line. We also have the most money of any country in the world.

Did we really need a Sequester to prove that we wanted to control our expenses in this country? No. Do we really believe that a shrinking economy with less taxation is better than a robust economy that produces more taxes? And what about the question of food stamps? Suddenly, it appears as if people do not want the poor to have food stamps because they’re freeloaders.

How could it be that the supposedly richest nation on earth is willing to have 25% of its population unemployed or under-employed, living in poverty and without food or healthcare? Who could possibly say that what’s needed now is less help for our brothers and sisters?
When you look at what is happening you begin to see that somebody out there simply wants all the money. We do not know who this is, but somebody out there really does want all the money. And they are not going to easily give up their quest.

So, that means that you and I and our friends and total strangers are going to have to help our leaders figure out: “What do we need now?”.

It is important for us to take time to let our President, Governors and Legislators know what we think is needed now!

The Universe is……..

In time we will understand Einstein as a philosopher and futurist. He left one question that qualified him for both titles when he posed the following: “One must decide if the Universe is a Friendly Place…….or Not.”

There is plenty of proof that the Universe is a dangerous and destructively unfriendly place. From the violent creation of Black Holes to the latest mass shooting at LAX airport, the Universe gladly appears to be a tough, unjust and ruthless place to live. If this is your view, then you will see and experience every kind of destruction and you will create, with your fears, the very things you fear the most. The price for judging the Universe an unfriendly place is a life filled with sad proof.

There is also plenty of proof that the Universe is a friendly place. One of the outcomes of Quantum Physics is that you will begin to see the very things you want to see, only more. When we went looking for galaxies, we figured there might be one or two billion. Now we discover that the smallest and darkest corner in the Universe is a doorway to literally billions of galaxies, currently invisible to all but the most sophisticated telescope. And from this distance, these galaxies look friendly.

The reason Einstein posed this question is because it is the foundation for everything you experience in life. For example, you really cannot say God Is Love and God created the universe and man in his image, and then say it is a dangerous and unfriendly place. It is what God is……….and so are we, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

We have been put here to create with the power that is part of the image in which God created us. We are here to learn to grow and cooperate together in acts of friendship and kindness, acts that will result in a better life for us all. We can only do this when we live unafraid and hopeful.

Right now, our efforts are critical and they sometimes seem fruitless, as the economy and the climate and the world’s religions and uninformed politicians with scads of money seem unable to re-orient themselves to a shift that has already happened within a very large group of global citizens…….including you and me.

We know we have left an unfriendly world and Universe and we have chosen to see, hear, taste and experience a wonderful life in a wonderful Universe. Paul said the secret of this when he wrote in Phillipians 4:

“4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Now, we can help others decide about the Universe by living as if there was no other choice than to see a friendly Universe. As we do, we will begin to see ourselves as one with each other and one with the entire Universe. And, there will be less and less room for the folks who want to see a hopeless future or an unblessed present.

The Way We Were!

What Just Happened? Three weeks ago it appeared we were being prepared for the next in the long series of our Perpetual 21st Century Wars. We were fully justified in this next war because some of our brothers and sisters had killed some others of our family. An eye for an eye! But as Gandhi said, if we follow that rule to its logical conclusion we will all be blind. Instead, we all woke up…..almost over night and changed the world!

Our representative government actually got the message. We began a new experience in using our power to change the world! Before that we had convinced ourselves we had no say in the government or any power to change it.

The churches we attend mirror some of that convincing as well. Even though Jesus uses the words sin, sinners and sinning only 22 times in the New Testament, many churches magnify sin as a way to keep us in control and caged by the fear that we will have to pay for our mistakes in hell.

We have been created by Love and Love is the core of our being. We are hard-wired to know and are fully capable of acting in a loving way in any situation. We also sometimes push the override button and pretend we have forgotten what is right. But, fear cannot exist where love is present.

God does not forget His creation, which allows us to use His power in the universe. But we resist using this power….out of fear. Marianne Williamson says: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

It falls to each of us to remember who we are and to help our brothers and sisters remember themselves along with us.

Instead of focusing on using our power to change the world for the better, we distract ourselves, standing in lines to buy new iPhones and pretending that we have not befouled our global nest by ignoring how our actions and ignorance are destroying the environment. We pretend that the highest good our brilliant minds can create are unstoppable machines of war and mass destruction. We pretend that our need for guns far out-weighs our concern for native terrorist attacks as we watch 250 mass murders (that is defined as 4 murders in one event) take place in this country in the first 250 days of this year. We live in a society that each day looks more and more like an interrogation room and the government is watching us from the other side of the mirror.

We can change this. Our turning away from destroying Syria is the first step in re-awakening to our power and God’s real help.

The wonder of this recent event forced us to see ourselves in a new light. We are not lowly sinners damned to Hell and pleading for Jesus to come save us, nor does a government hell-bent on corralling us into a free-range prison victimize us as helpless citizens.

We are being led, by our higher selves into a time when we will look again and realize we are not human beings struggling to have a spiritual life, we are divine eternal spiritual beings having a human experience, as Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said.

As we make this transition, this shift in consciousness, this experience of a new paradigm we will begin to see more and more often that we are here to love the whole experience of life and each other…..and the day will surely come when we will be astounded that we ever spent any time trying to kill another human being.

As we see each other in this new way and look back on who we used to be, we will exclaim in wonder about our former selves: Who was that?
